This Cookie Policy explains how I, David Keyes, use cookies and similar technologies on davidkeyes.com, the choices you have, and how to change them. Read it together with my Privacy Policy.

01. Scope of this policy

This policy applies to www.davidkeyes.com (the "Site"), which I operate personally from Los Angeles, California. In it, "I," "me," and "my" refer to David Keyes.

It does not cover other websites linked from the Site, such as client sites and social platforms. Those are governed by their own policies.

Where this policy and the Privacy Policy cover the same subject, the Privacy Policy governs.

02. What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store on your device. On a later visit the site can read it, which is how a site remembers a preference or measures how it is used.

In this policy, "cookies" also covers similar technologies that do the same job, such as tracking scripts and local storage.

First-party cookies are set by davidkeyes.com; third-party cookies are set by another domain, such as Google or HubSpot. Session cookies expire when you close your browser; persistent cookies remain for a set period or until you delete them.

03. When I ask for consent

Cookies that are strictly necessary for the Site to work, including the one that remembers your cookie choice, are set without asking, as the law allows. They cannot be switched off.

Every other cookie needs your consent first. Nothing in the analytics or marketing categories loads until you allow it. Scrolling or continuing to browse is not consent, and nothing is pre-selected for you.

04. How your choice is recorded

On your first visit, the cookie banner lets you accept all categories, decline all optional ones, or choose category by category. Declining is as easy as accepting.

Your choice is saved in a first-party cookie on your device, with the date and the version of the categories you were shown. It lasts 180 days, after which the banner asks again. It will also ask again if the categories change. Clearing your browser's cookies clears the choice too.

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time with the Manage cookie preferences button on this page. A change takes effect immediately.

05. The cookies I use

The table at the end of this page lists each category, what it is for, the tools behind it, and the cookies they set. It is generated from the same settings that drive the preference controls, so what you read and what the switches do always match.

  • Strictly necessary: keeps the Site working and remembers your cookie choice.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics, so I can see in aggregate how visitors move through the Site. Only with your consent.
  • Marketing: HubSpot, to connect a contact form submission to the visit it came from. Only with your consent.

I list only tools that actually run on the Site. If I add one, I will update this policy and the preference controls together and ask for your consent again.

06. Third-party providers

Google and HubSpot set their own cookies when you allow them. They process that information under their own privacy policies as well as my instructions. I do not permit them to use it to build advertising profiles of you beyond what is described here.

07. If you decline or withdraw consent

If you decline a category, its tools do not load and its cookies are not set. If you withdraw consent you gave earlier, the Site stops loading those tools and deletes the cookies it can reach. Cookies stored on a third party's own domain must be removed in your browser.

Declining never stops you from using the Site or contacting me.

08. Managing cookies in your browser

Most browsers let you see, delete, and block cookies, including all third-party cookies. These settings apply to one browser on one device; a choice made in one browser does not carry over to another.

The Site does not respond to "Do Not Track" signals, for which there is no common standard.

09. Your privacy rights

Information collected through cookies may be personal information. It is handled as described in the Privacy Policy, including your rights to access, correct, and delete it. California residents can also opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information; see Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you may complain to your national data protection authority. I would appreciate the chance to resolve your concern first.

10. International transfers

I am based in the United States, and information from cookies is processed in the United States and wherever Google and HubSpot operate.

11. Children

The Site is not directed to children under 16, and I do not knowingly collect their information through cookies.

12. Changes to this policy

I may update this policy when the tools on the Site change. The "Last Updated" date above shows the latest revision. If a change affects the categories you agreed to, the banner will ask you again.

13. Contact
